When To Hire A Doula

 

The best time to hire a Lubbock Doula is in your second trimester.  This ensures that you will have time for an initial interview, two pre-labor meetings, and the opportunity for your doula to accompany you to one or two prenatal appointments.  This will give your doula and caregiver a chance to meet one another before the actual birth takes place.  A doula can be hired later in the pregnancy, but this does not always provide sufficient time for a mother to get to know her Lubbock birth doula as well as desired for the best birth experience.  However, hiring a Lubbock doula late in pregnancy is better than not hiring one at all!

 

What Questions Should I Ask When Hiring a Lubbock Doula?
Just like every other part of your pregnancy, the process of deciding to hire a Lubbock doula is one that involves many questions, and those questions deserve answers that are truthful and comforting to you, the mother.  Below is a list of questions that you may wish to ask when speaking with a prospective doula:

 

1. What type of training and education do you have?
2. What is your philosophy on childbirth and supporting expectant mothers and fathers through labor and delivery?
3. At what point in labor would you join me – would you meet us at our home or at the place of birth?
4. Will you meet with us before the birth to discuss our birth plans and the role that you will play in supporting us through the labor, birth and postpartum experience?
5. Will you provide help in organizing a birthing plan?
6.  May we call you with questions or concerns before or after the birth?
7. Are you in practice with one or more backup doulas for times when you are not available? Will we be able to meet with them before labor begins?
8. What are your services and fees? 
9. Do you provide references?
10. Do you stay with us after the baby is born?  For how long?
11. What is your postpartum role?
12. Do you provide a follow-up visit?
